The Herbano team had the extraordinary opportunity to visit Ms. Schindler-Greiter in Austria and talk to her about her personal relationship to the beauty industry, current cosmetic trends and her new MSG product line.

Monika Schindler-Greiter: The daughter of a pioneer

Since her earliest youth, cosmetics and sun protection have played an important role in Schindler-Greiter's life. Growing up in Vorarlberg, her entire family life initially took place in her parents' cosmetics business. In the beginning, the focus was on the Marga Greiter cosmetics range - named after Monika Schindler-Greiter's mother. The range was produced in Austria and distributed locally. In the years that followed, Schindler-Greiter's father, the Swiss chemist Prof. Franz Greiter, became convinced that simply caring for the skin was not enough and that the largest human organ needed to be protected from the harmful effects of the sun. As a passionate mountaineer who had successfully conquered Piz Buin several times, but always returned with severe sunburn, he became intensively involved in researching sun protection products.

Prof. Greiter is considered the founder of the sun protection factor, which today is the standard measure of the effectiveness of sun protection products. Based on his research findings, Prof. Greiter developed the Piz Buin sun protection brand in the early 1960s - the first sun protection products of their kind in the world and unsurpassed in their effectiveness at the time. Throughout his life, Prof. Greiter continued to research sun protection and developed the UV-A and UV-B filters, which protect the skin from the dangerous ultraviolet light of the sun. Further innovations by Prof. Greiter were cold and broad spectrum protection, as well as the water resistance of sunscreens. When asked what it was like to grow up as the daughter of a pioneer, Schindler-Greiter answers in simple words: "It was fantastic!".

Ms. Schindler-Greiter was not only able to learn from her father's work, but was also influenced by her mother's experience. Marga Greiter recognized early on that a successful cosmetics range must satisfy the individual needs of each customer: People with sensitive skin in particular need especially gentle and compatible skin care. In response to this need, Marga Greiter developed the Declaré range in the 1970s - the first skincare range for sensitive skin and especially suitable for allergy sufferers.

According to Schindler-Greiter, the idea of developing her own face cream came about because of the imbalancesshe noticed in the cosmetics market: "The simplicity and effectiveness of the products has been lost in recent years. The cosmetics industry is flooding the market with countless products for individual parts of the face and body and forgetting what the customer really wants: high-quality care, easy-to-use and at a reasonable price. I want to support women who are faced with a double or triple burden due to family, professional and private commitments and therefore love simplicity."
