Treating allergies naturally: An expert explains

Veröffentlicht am: October 04, 2024

The number of people affected by allergies has been rising steadily for several decades. Hay fever is at the top of this statistic, with almost 15% of all adults in Germany and one in 10 children suffering from a pollen allergy.

Those affected often struggle with the unpleasant symptoms of hay fever for long periods and want nothing more than quick relief. There is a wide range of pharmaceutical hay fever medications available, but these often only treat the symptoms in the short term and also have unpleasant side effects such as tiredness or, in the case of nasal sprays, irritation of the mucous membranes or even addiction.

Natural remedies for hay fever: black cumin oil, calcium and co.

A good alternative is offered by natural remedies for hay fever treatment, which are also ideal for children due to their minimal side effects and, unlike pharmaceutical medications, not only treat the symptoms of hay fever, but also directly address the cause - namely a weakened immune system. We spoke to naturopath and expert Adriane Jacoby about the natural treatment options for pollen allergies.

Naturopath Adriane Jacoby

Adriane Jacoby is a naturopath and has been running her naturopathic practice in Langenargen since 2013. Her enthusiasm for holistic medicine has led her to naturopathy and thus to the large field of modern complementary medicine, within which she finely and individually adapts her treatment to her patients. Adriane Jacoby likes to take people by the hand and treats them with natural active ingredients to restore the basic order of body, mind and soul.

Ms. Jacoby, hay fever is one of the most widespread diseases of our time. How much does a pollen allergy affect the quality of life of those affected?

For those affected, hay fever often feels like a flu-like infection. The symptoms range from watery, itchy eyes to a runny nose, itchy palate and reduced ability to breathe or even shortness of breath.

Treatment with antihistamines can provide relief, but can also have severe side effects. For example, antihistamines make you very tired.

What happens if a pollen allergy is not treated?

Patients continue to suffer from symptoms, some of which are severe, making it difficult for them to enjoy the beautiful, bright season. Some sufferers can even hardly leave the house when their symptoms are acute. It is therefore understandable that hay fever allergy sufferers would like to suppress their allergy with appropriate medication. However, the problem is that it then usually manifests itself on another level, for example through the occurrence of bronchial asthma or neurodermatitis.

In your experience, which natural treatment methods have proven particularly effective for acute hay fever?

Taking high doses of calcium and autohemotherapy with a holistic therapist has proven to be particularly helpful in the treatment of hay fever. This can provide both acute and long-term relief. The oral intake of effective substances such as calcium, krill oil, black cumin oil and MSM is essential in the treatment of hay fever. Sometimes it is also useful to check vitamin D levels and carry out intestinal cleansing.

And what does the long-term treatment of hay fever look like?

Basically the same as the acute treatment. However, the treatment suggestions mentioned should be carried out over a longer period of about 3 months.

Is there a natural way to combat hay fever at night?

Of course there are. I recommend taking a calcium-magnesium combination or isolated calcium before going to bed.

You have already mentioned natural substances for the treatment of hay fever such as calcium, krill oil, MSM and black seed oil. What does black cumin oil do?

Black cumin oil is said to be a real all-rounder when it comes to the immune system, as it strengthens it with unsaturated fatty acids, prostagladins, vitamins and minerals. This strengthening of the immune system naturally also benefits hay fever allergy sufferers.

Why do you recommend calcium for allergies?

In an allergic reaction of any kind, the so-called mast cell (immune cell) produces uncontrolled histamine, which triggers all the symptoms of hay fever. Calcium closes the cell so that less histamine can enter the bloodstream and the hay fever symptoms are much less severe.

What is MSM and how does it work?

MSM is an organic sulphur compound that strengthens each of our body cells and therefore has a very regenerative effect. This is why MSM also works wonderfully as a natural antihistamine and painkiller.

And what is krill oil good for?

Krill oil contains a lot of omega 3, which has an anti-inflammatory effect and can have a positive effect on the body's allergic disposition.

Children are now also severely affected by hay fever. What helps with hay fever in children?

Basically, the same therapy can be used for children as for adults, but in smaller doses. In children, hay fever can also be treated homeopathically, as capsules can only be swallowed from a certain age and autologous blood therapy is only possible from the age of 12.

Conclusion

Those affected often suffer greatly from the symptoms of hay fever and feel that their quality of life is restricted by their pollen allergy. Pharmaceutical medications often promise quick relief of symptoms, but do not combat the causes of hay fever and sometimes have severe side effects.

The situation is different with natural remedies to combat and treat hay fever. They have hardly any side effects and can also do more than just alleviate the symptoms of pollen allergy. Instead, they attack the problem of hay fever where it originates, namely in the human immune system. Black cumin oil, MSM, calcium or krill oil strengthen the immune system and combat hay fever in the long term and from the ground up. In addition, hay fever in children can also be treated with natural remedies without hesitation.
