Did you know that saffron is one of the most expensive spices in the world and is therefore also known as "red gold"? This is mainly due to the complex harvesting process: For 1 kilogram of saffron, around 150,000 to 200,000 saffron crocuses actually have to be harvested by hand!
Because of their positive effect on the mood and the emotional balance the medicinal plant in Eastern traditional medicine, it has been used for thousands of years. Last but not least, it is also used for its natural, aphrodisiac effect highly valued.
These effects have now also been scientifically proven and can mainly be attributed to the effect of the secondary plant substances can be attributed.
Saffron (Crocus sativus) and its active ingredients have a number of beneficial properties that can have an extremely positive effect on health. Among other things, the "red gold" is able to support your organism with these beneficial effects, which we would like to introduce to you in more detail below
With the help of the impressive variety of secondary plant substances with an antioxidant effect in our saffron capsules, you can now effectively protect your cells from free radicals and oxidative stress.
The antioxidants in saffron include crocin, crocetin, safranal and kaempferol.
Are you also so enthusiastic about the red color of saffron? The two carotenoid pigments are responsible for this crocin and crocetin. When it comes to promoting health, these compounds score particularly well with their antidepressant effect. At the same time, they also protect brain cells from damage and effectively alleviate inflammation.
Research has shown that saffronal can improve mood, memory and learning ability and protect brain cells from oxidative stress.
Kaempferol, which is contained in saffron petals, can significantly reduce inflammation and also has anti-cancer properties and an antidepressant effect.
Saffron is known as a medicinal plant for its anti-cancer properties and could therefore even be used as a natural anti-cancer agent. Cancer and other chronic diseases have been linked to the damaging effects of free radicals. With its richness in antioxidants, saffron could effectively help fight free radicals.
In this regard, in-vitro studies have shown that saffron does indeed selectively kills colon cancer cells or suppresses their growth, while leaving normal cells unharmed. Fortunately, this effect has also been observed in skin, bone marrow, prostate, lung, breast, cervical and various other cancer cells.
Further in vitro studies show that the antioxidant crocin is also able to make cancer cells more sensitive to chemotherapy, cancer cells more sensitive to chemotherapeutic so that they die more quickly as a result of chemotherapy.
Saffron is also known as "sunshine spice" known. The medicinal plant has this name not only because of its special color, but above all because of its mood-enhancing properties.
An analysis of five studies conducted in this context showed that saffron supplements were significantly more effective than placebos in treating the symptoms of mild to moderate depression were significantly more effective than placebos.
Further studies also came to the conclusion that the daily intake of 30 mg saffron is just as effective is as effective as conventional antidepressants. In addition, there were also significantly fewer side effects occurred.
Aphrodisiacs are food or nutritional supplements that are used in a natural way to increase the libido in a natural way. As far as saffron is concerned, studies have shown that it can support both men and women with its aphrodisiac properties. In particular, people who suffer from a low libido as a result of taking antidepressants find that the "sunshine spice" gives them more desire in life.
A study was conducted on precisely this connection with men was conducted with men suffering from erectile dysfunction caused by antidepressants. And indeed, the daily intake of 30 mg saffron over four weeks was able to improve the participants' erectile function compared to a placebo. erectile function significantly improved.
Unfortunately, antidepressants can also women can also lead to reduced sexual desire in women. And here too, a study showed that taking 30 mg of saffron daily for four weeks had an effect: Sexually induced pain decreased and at the same time both libido and lubrication, i.e. the productioni.e. the production of vaginal fluid. This effect did not occur when a placebo was administered.
Saffron extract has a mood-enhancing effectwhich, fortunately, also has the potential to reduce the craving for sweets.
Many people combat stress with chocolate, gummy bears etc. However, snacking between meals can quickly get out of control and lead to weight gain and obesity. Women are more often affected by this. In a French study, researchers came to the conclusion that the administration of saffron extract makes it much easier to resist the urge to snack and that the mood-enhancing effect also leads to an improved feeling of satiety. Both can effectively facilitate weight loss.
Another study also showed that the intake of saffron extract also contributes to a reduction in appetite, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference and total body fat mass.
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is one of the most common health problems in women and affects 20 to 50 percent of all women of childbearing age. Saffron is considered an excellent antispasmodic.
A study at the University of Medical Sciences in Tehran showed that saffron significantly improves PMS symptoms. The study involved women between the ages of 20 and 45 with regular menstrual cycles who had been suffering from PMS symptoms for at least six months. The women were randomly assigned to either group A, which received 15 milligrams of saffron in capsule form twice daily in the morning and evening, or group B, which received a placebo twice daily for two menstrual cycles. Using a questionnaire on daily premenstrual symptoms and the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), the women's PMS symptoms were analyzed.
Fortunately, a significant difference was observed after taking saffron - after two to four cycles the women's PMS symptoms decreased significantly.
That's not all saffron can do for your health. In fact, saffron capsules are also associated with other positive properties, although there is still little research available:
Saffron extract capsules are generally considered safe and have few to no side effects. Possible, but rarely occurring complaints include:
