Omega 3 is extremely important for our general health. It helps to fight inflammation in our body and is essential for a healthy heart, eyes and memory. It is also particularly important during pregnancy for the proper development of the child.

So what can you do to cover your omega 3 requirements?

Omega 3 from fish, fish oil or algae oil? - It depends!

Fatty cold-water fish contain a lot of the important omega 3 fatty acids. This means that you could theoretically cover your omega 3 requirement through your diet alone. In reality, however, this usually looks different due to various factors:

  • 1) Our diet hardly contains any fish anymore: Fish is hardly part of our modern diet. To really get enough omega 3 from fish, you would have to eat fish almost every day.
  • 2) Fish is often contaminated with heavy metals and toxins: Fish directly store toxins such as mercury, which is later consumed by humans.

This is what makes it so difficult to meet your omega 3 requirements by eating fish without ingesting heavy metals and toxins at the same time.

But what about the sustainability of fish oil and algae oil?

  • Improper fishing leads to overfishing and the destruction of marine habitats

Experts believe that if fishing continues as it is now, there will be a collapse of the entire fish population by 2048. Fishing has a major impact on the sea and its ecosystem.

It is therefore important to only consume sustainable, traceable and high-quality fish oil.

Compared to improper fishing, algae oil can be produced sustainably and in an environmentally friendly way in algae tanks. This is because algae only need sunlight, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and phosphorus to grow. This means that the world's oceans are not additionally polluted.

And what about those people who don't like fish and therefore don't like fish oil?

Fish? No, thank you.

Vegetarians, vegans and people who do not like fish cannot cover their omega 3 requirements with fish. Although there are plant-based sources of omega 3 such as linseed oil or hemp oil, it is not easy to meet this requirement as they mainly contain the fatty acid ALA. ALA must first be converted by the body into DHA and EPA.

In order to supply these groups of people with omega 3, researchers began to simply omit the fish and start one step further down - directly with the fish food algae. Because even fish have to eat algae to produce enough omega 3. Algae are also naturally purer than fish, as they are lower down the food chain.

High-quality oil containing large amounts of DHA and EPA is obtained from the marine microalgae Schizochytrium sp. The algae oil is available as capsules or in liquid form.

So are fish oil and algae oil equally good?

Studies have investigated whether omega 3 from fish oil or algae oil are of the same high quality. According to the results, the two oils appear to be bio-equivalent.

Fish oil and algae oil are therefore both a good way to cover your omega 3 requirements. With fish oil, however, you should pay particular attention to the quality and check whether the product is sustainable. Algae oil can be produced more sustainably and is of the same quality as fish oil.

So nothing stands in the way of you covering your own omega 3 requirements! For example with our new 100% natural and vegan algae oil!

What makes vegan omega 3 capsules made from algae oil so special?

  • A PLUS for your health: Algae oil contains high levels of DHA, one of the two omega-3 fatty acids we need for long-term physical and mental health. Algae oil supports our heart, our eyesight and our brain development.
  • Excellent fatty acid profile: with EPA, DHA and ALA fatty acids
  • 100% natural & 100% vegan: the high-quality fatty acids are 100% natural and of plant origin
  • Natural protective coating: EPA and DHA fatty acids are particularly sensitive to light and heat, which is why our algae oil capsules contain natural rosemary extract and vitamin E as reliable protection against oxidation.
  • Nature remains nature: The marine microalgae Schizochytrium sp., which is used for our algae oil capsules, only requires sunlight, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and phosphorus (for example, they feed on organic substances such as dead leaves). This makes production sustainable and environmentally friendly.
  • Highest purity: As algae are lower in the food chain than fish, omega 3 fatty acids from algae oils are naturally purer than most oils from fish (our fish oil capsules are purified and therefore have an equally high quality standard).
  • Best bioavailability for your body: The fatty acids EPA and DHA are present in algae oil in triglyceride form and can therefore be utilized particularly well by the body.
  • Say goodbye to fish odor: Pregnant women in particular are much more sensitive to fish odor, which is why algae oil capsules are a good alternative to fish oil capsules.
