Breastfeeding is essential for the relationship between mother and child and connects on a deep level. But that's not all - breast milk is crucial for the optimal development and health of the child. This is because it strengthens the immune system and promotes the sensitive intestinal flora.

However, breastfeeding does not always go smoothly. Many women report that they have too little milk of their own.

What's the story?

In principle, there is no such thing as too little milk. However, there are very few cases in which the amount of milk is impaired, for example due to placental remnants remaining in the uterus, anaemia, diabetes(gestational diabetes) or hormonal disorders. Medication, stress and a lack of sleep can also have a negative effect.

But it is much more likely ...

... that most mothers get this feeling due to their own unrealistic ideas about the right amount or due to incorrect/late latching on. The separation of mother and child can also disrupt smooth breastfeeding management. A lack of support and inexperience also play their part.

It is estimated that around 10-15% of breastfeeding women do not produce enough milk due to incorrect breastfeeding management!

Stimulate milk production: What can you do?

If you want to stimulate your milk production, you should consider and observe the following points:

1. trust your body

Boost your self-confidence. In the first few days after giving birth, it is completely normal for your milk supply to be slightly lower. With the help of your body's own hormones, this will normally regulate itself. Also cuddle a lot with your baby to strengthen your bond.

2. optimize your breastfeeding management

After the first few days when the hormones have adjusted, you should make sure that you breastfeed your baby regularly and often. This is important to maintain the flow of milk. In addition to frequent breastfeeding, you should also check your latch-on technique. The right technique is the be-all and end-all of breastfeeding management. If your baby feeds more often, more milk will be produced. You should also offer both sides of the breast and avoid confusing your baby's sucking (by using a pacifier or adding tea/water).

Are you unsure whether you are latching on correctly? Ask your breastfeeding consultant.

3. take part in the Morton Protocol Challenge

Take part in the Morton Protocol Challenge. The Morton Protocol is about specifically increasing your own milk quantity. Morton Protocol Challenge

4. stimulate your milk production

In addition to the measures mentioned above, milk production can also be stimulated with the help of so-called galactogogues. Galactogogues are herbs that stimulate milk production. These are available either as a breastfeeding tea or as a dietary supplement. Herbs such as aniseed, fennel, caraway, fenugreek, dill or honeysuckle are particularly effective.

We have developed a recipe for you that contains the most important milk-stimulating herbs.

Our 100% natural herbal complex for milk production consists of

  • Fenugreek
  • Caraway and cumin
  • Fennel
  • Aniseed
  • Dill

It is not easy to know what is normal and what is not, especially in the early stages of breastfeeding. Pay attention to whether your baby is gaining weight healthily, has regular full diapers and is generally awake and alert.

Also talk to other mothers a lot and ask your lactation consultant. Don't let yourself get stressed and trust your body. Experience comes with time.
