The skin never forgets! We should always be aware of this. Even if it was only a "small" sunburn - it is always harmful. With every sunburn you take one step further towards skin cancer.

21.06.2019 is Sun Protection Day. The aim is to draw attention to the importance of good sun protection.

Skin cancer is preventable!

Too much sun increases the risk of skin cancer

Anything in excess is bad - including ultraviolet UV-A and UV-B rays from the sun.

Even as a small child, you know that sunburn is dangerous for the skin. In the short term, sunburn manifests itself as burning, pain and redness, blistering and severe burns. In the long term, damage such as premature skin ageing or skin cancer only becomes apparent years later.

However, you can get sunburn not only in direct sunlight. UV rays can also get through in the shade, under a cloudy sky or when wearing long clothing and can burn your skin.

Unfortunately, many people still take the risk of sunburn too lightly.

Only one in three people avoid the sun because of the risk of skin cancer!

But what is even more harmful than too much sun? That's right - too little!

Of course, as already mentioned, too much sun is harmful. But it is even more harmful to avoid the sun completely!

Because the sun is vital for us. With its help, our body can produce the essential vitamin D3 and other compounds and thus strengthen our immune system and our health.

There are already many recommendations for the public health system to avoid UV rays. This is primarily because there are strong concerns about skin cancer. There are hardly any recommendations for explicit sunbathing. Compared to the risk of skin cancer from too much sun, too little sun increases the risk of a whole range of other diseases, including depression. Studies show that depressed people very often have low vitamin D levels. And there's more: depression is one of the main causes of suicide!

Avoiding the sun is one of the main causes of death!

What does science say?

  • A Swedish study from 2014 found that the mortality rate for people who avoid the sun a lot is twice as high as for people who go out in the sun very often.
  • Another study from 2013 states that in Northern Europe, 60 to 100 people die from a stroke or heart disease for every skin cancer death. The cause of this is high blood pressure, which is strongly associated with a vitamin D deficiency and, in particular, a lack of sun exposure.
  • Scientists have found that avoiding the sun is as bad for your health as smoking!
  • A lack of sunlight causes many health problems and is associated with many diseases. Examples include cardiovascular problems, cancer, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Epidemiological data suggests that regular exposure to sunlight can reduce the overall mortality rate. Stable vitamin D levels are said to be particularly beneficial for cancer, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease.

People who avoid the sun live up to 2 years less than sun worshippers!

What does that mean for you?

The body needs sunshine to survive! So go outside, soak up some pure sunshine and boost your general health. No sun is just as little an option as too much sun!

So too much sun makes you ill, too little too. So how do I find a good compromise?

Regular, brief sunbathing works wonders. There are also natural remedies that ensure that the UV rays are better processed in the body.

Follow these 5 tips and you can look forward to sunbathing with peace of mind

  • Only stay in the sun for as long as your own protection allows. (Very light skin color = 5-10 min.; Light skin color = 10-20 min.; Light brown skin color = 20-30 min.)
  • Prefer the shade for longer stays at lakes and beaches
  • Sunbathing for hours on end is extremely harmful, even with sun cream. It should only be used when sun exposure is unavoidable (e.g. when hiking, swimming, etc.). Sun cream is therefore not a license to lie in the blazing sun for several hours.
  • Only use sunscreen that does not contain harmful ingredients, as these disrupt our hormone balance (e.g. parabens) and even destroy coral reefs (e.g. oxybenzone).
  • Nutrients such as astaxanthin or beta carotene and lycopene from cooked tomatoes can help to improve the body's own protection against UV rays. Astaxanthin also protects against the sun as a natural anti-ageing factor.

SUMMER IS HERE: Activate your own protection today, because good sun protection starts on the inside!

➤ Harness the power of astaxanthin as a natural and reliable sunscreen that works from the inside out

Astaxanthin is also known as the king of carotenoids and is found in certain types of algae and seafood such as krill and salmon. These sea creatures use the waterproof pigment to protect themselves from the burning sun.

Astaxanthin is one of the most powerful antioxidants there is. Antioxidants protect the body from aggressive free radicals, which cause considerable damage to our body cells. The antioxidant thus protects the body from oxidative stress caused by UV rays. The red pigment considerably exceeds the power of the two antioxidants vitamin C and vitamin E.

Studies confirm that astaxanthin protects the skin. The results show that astaxanthin acts as a natural anti-ageing agent. It helps with skin hydration, elasticity and fine wrinkles. Astaxanthin can also reduce the damage caused by ultraviolet radiation from the sun. In the event of sunburn, the pigment reduces UVA damage.

!! Astaxanthin therefore acts as a reliable internal sunscreen!

Astaxanthin is therefore ideal for helping to prevent sunburn. The antioxidant in pill form is part of the standard range at the Ironman triathlon in Hawaii, for example, to protect athletes from the scorching sun.

Astaxanthin is 550 times more powerful than vitamin E and 6,000 times more powerful than vitamin C.

Please note that no sunscreen product offers 100 % protection. With astaxanthin, vitamins and secondary plant substances, sun protection values of up to 20 can be achieved.

Make sure that you always apply additional sun protection when you are in the sun for longer periods of time. Nevertheless, you should also get some sun without sun cream to top up your vitamin D levels, but only for as long as your own protection allows.

It's the quantity that counts!
